Introduction   Everyone knows them, expressions like "It's raining cats and dogs" or "People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones". These proverbs are used without too much thought. But what exactly is a proverb and what is a saying. Accoring to Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913) de definitions are: Proverb An old and common saying; a phrase which is often repeated; especially, a sentence which briefly and forcibly expresses some practical truth, or the result of experience and observation. Saying That which is said; a declaration; a statement, especially a proverbial one; an aphorism; a proverb. As you can see there is a little difference between a proverb and a saying, but it's a very little difference. At this proverbs and sayings both 'proverbs' and 'sayings' are used and the same thing is meant by that: 'proverbs and sayings'. The site has several separated parts. Of course there is a page which allows you to search the database. At that page you can search in the database for proverbs you don't recall fully anymore (how did the proverb about the 'grass at the other side' go). Another part of the site allows you to browse the databases. You can then get in contact with proverbs in serveral categories. Possibly you'll even see some proverbs and sayings you never heard of before. For the necessary pleasure and relaxation this site also offers some games. The is the world's most famous game 'hangman' and there is a multiple choice game in which you have to find the right description to a proverb.
